Woke up at 3:30 AM and could not go back to sleep so got up at 4 and thought this might be a good time to catch up on my blog. Am happy with the scales this morning as they read 125 which is just what they said when we left town on June 30th. Today I must get our Wii board hooked back up to see what it will say in the morning.

We arrived back in Palmetto by 1:00 yesterday, Thursday, then spent the rest of the day with getting settled back in .... unpacking, groceries, mail, laundry etc etc etc
Did watch the whole TdF for the first time ...as we've been traveling since it started we have only seen bits and piece of it... so was great to watch while opening the mail and stuff. Today I need to get my financial bag back from Betty's so that I can get caught up on posting the last 3 weeks receipts to Quicken.

Monday 7/19: Benders Home... Today the guys played golf while I did the laundry and repacked our suitcases in anticipation of our drive back to Florida. Martha called from France so it was great to chat with her about what was going on with them in France... Tonight we watched the DVD Planet 51.. it was okay but not great.

Tuesday 7/20: Judy' House by evening.... This morning were able to watch the first part of the TdF which was great as Lance Armstrong was the leader for about 200 km....This was so exciting for us ..I even took pictures of the TV screen where it showed that he was the leader and that team RadioShack was in the lead for overall team points...but soon it was time to leave for Silver Oaks, the assisted Living place that the guys were to play music for this morning. By noon we were on the road to Kentucky. Arrived at Judys by 3 and spent the evening with them.

Wednesday 7/21: Kens House by evening.... Left Judys by 5:15 AM..decided to go right down through Georgia this time as going thru Alabama added several hours to our trip up...since we were making such good time we took a side trip to Conyers to visit the plant where Phil worked during the time that we lived in Georgia during 2000. Arrived in Warner Robins GA by 4 PM. Took Ken out to eat tonight as he has been our host for 2 nights on this trip... we did Mexican, and must say that I overate my dinner of fried vegetables but oh were they ever good. BTW I have stayed with my Vegan way of eating during this trip and will soon have completed 5 months of not eating any animal products...its called pre planning your meals and carrying food with you.. especially when eating out. Everyone we have visited has been very good about having vegetables and fruits available for me which was a big help.

Thurday 7/22: Left Kens by 5:30 and were home in Palmetto Florida by 1:00...see that I have already told you all about Thursday earlier in my post. This will be my last Memories and Musing Blog as we are no longer traveling......

Sunday July 18, 2010

First thing this morning we all 4 went to Mass at St. Bartholomew Church. This is the church that I grew up in....but, with a new building in a new area of town. Always looking for familiar faces but rarely see anybody that I know.

At noon I left for Walmart...filled up the gas tank and then on to the cemetery to use the items that I had just purchased to dig out a hole close to my son David's tombstone. In this hole I buried a plastic tumbler so now I have a place to put flowers. I really need to purchase a regular vase from the cemetery but have just never done that. Have always just stuck the flowers in the ground and hoped that they would stay for awhile.

Leaving Garland Brook I drove over to meet my sister, Shirley, at Silver Oaks retirement center. There she and I visited with her Mother in law for about an hour before making our way to Parkside where our cousin, Peggy, lives in another retirement center....but Peggy was not home so then we drove to Shirley's house to visit for a couple of hours. This was really this first time since I have been here that she and I have been able to visit by ourselves.

Shirley lost her husband over a year ago and is just now in a new relationship with the nicest man, Larry, who also lost his spouse last fall. We are all so pleased
to see her so happy....they are like a couple of teenagers all giggly and full of smiles and laughter. Think that they have decided to stay at Larry's house for now as Shirley's home is much larger and comes with a lot of work keeping up a very large yard. Think that they are just so happy as bugs in a rug at his house. Meanwhile Shirley's son, Derek, stays at her house when he is in town.

Last night Gary cooked schich co bobs (this is not spelled right) of mixed veggys on separate sticks and meat on others so that I could enjoy a meal with them. That is such a great way to fix food on an open grill. Yes, I did have my veggy burger on the side. Heard from Ken Albrecht last night so looks like we will stop at his house for the night on the way home. We leave Tuesday afternoon and hope to be home in Florida by late Thursday.

Saturday was spent with the 4 cousins. Phil, Gary, Jerry and Susie's mothers were all sisters. It started in the morning with a pancake breakfast then the men all went golfing while we women went to the mall.... first for a mexican lunch then alittle shopping. Leaving the mall we drove around in Columbus to show Susie and Betty different historical buildings... Susie main goal was to see the church, First Christian, where her parents had been married so many years ago. We made a quick stop at the Greeks but it was so crowded that we went on to McDonalds for ice cream.

Since the guys had stayed for a full 18 holes of golf we gals ended up playing cards the rest of the aftrnoon until they came home.

Yes, I was so good with all this food. In the morning I had my oatmeal early then enjoyed mixed fruit with everyone at brekfast. Lunch I had a wonderful Lettuce, tomato and guacomole salad along with my pumpernickel bread and a veggie pattie at the Mexican restrauant. When we all went to Applebees for Dinner I again had a plain salad and another veggie pattie...so I have found out that eating out can be done but you just have to plan ahead.

Enjoyed Martha's Blog...check it out if you have not seen it.. Her bridge pictures are so great and again, she is meeting new people as she travels...this time from Holland. Always lots of time to meet new people while waiting for the bike riders to whosh by and she is always handing out her card and adding new readers to her blog site.

Friday July 16, 2010

Today Gary, Alitza & Phil played music at Silver Oaks, a retirement center in Columbus. While there I went back into the nursing area and visited with Charlotte Suddeth, my sister Shirleys Mother in Law. She is, I think, about 95 and in very poor health, so I was glad to have a chance to stop by and say hello to her. Still very sharp, she knew who I was right away.

Coming home we found Gary's Grandson, Brandon, who has lived with them for about two years was in the process of moving out. Will miss seeing him but most of all I will miss the access to wireless internet as the router belonged to him and now it is gone. We are able to use Garys computer but it not just the same as being able to use my own.

In the afternoon Phil and I went to "the Greeks" a local ice cream & lunch place from our youth to meet Dale Burgan and his wife. He and Phil were in the Airforce together so did alot of story telling and catching up. His wife, I was surprised to find out that she worked with my mother many years ago at Bakkalar Air Force Base... Mother was at the end of her working years and she was just starting out..small world. I was so good and just drank my water at the table..first time I have ever been in that place and not had an ice cream...

Friday night we all went to the Elks Club for dinner with a group of their friends for dinner.. large table with 13 people.. I was smart and ate my supper at home before leaving and enjoyed my water while being sociable with the group.

I am writing this on Saturday morning as I could not get into my blog yesterday..so this morning I went in thru my Traveling Twin blog to sign in to this one. Will post this and then do todays blog tonight.

Slept in a bit today...up at 8:30... this morning we took a drive thru downtown Columbus to check out the new building etc...cruising down Washington St....and on out to see my brother, Joseph, at White Oak Lake. Was great to catch up on family news with him and especially to see pictures of his latest Great Grandchild Tommy.
Then we did some computer stuff and he showed me some new great websites.

This afternoon we four Benders went to the movies and saw Knight & Day ..the critics have not had rave reviews on this movie but we all really enjoyed it. It's an action/comedy with a new thrill every minute..reminded me of Indiana Jones.

The guys have been doing alot of practice for tomorrows play date at Silver Oaks, a retirement center here in Columbus. They are putting on a show tomorrow and next Tuesday after which we will be headed back down to Florida.

I have been doing good with my vegan food plan while on the road. I carry most of my own food with me...adding in whatever vegetables and fruits our hosts have fixed for meals. It's generally the protein part of the meal that I have to use my own foods. Am anxious to get home where I can weigh on my own scales. Alitiza's scale shows that I have not gained weight on this trip but then its not ditigal. Oh well will be home soon.

Wednesday July 14, 2010

This morning I got a surprise phone call from twin Martha, in France...always great to chat with her...the blogs are great but miss talking with her on a regular basis when she is out of the country. Later I went to sister Shirley's house where I found her son, Derek, who is living in the house and daughter, Karen who was visiting with her daughter Diana and Grand daughter, Cameron. Diana & her family are moving to Florida at the end of the month so am sure that we will see them from time to time as they will be living in Clearwater which is not to far from us.

Was fun catching up with all of them as it had been awhile since I had seen them. Later Shirley came home and she and I got a chance to catch up with each other.
Tonight is another evening with America's Got Talent..

Was excited to see that the Radio Shack team took a Stage Win in the Tour de France today. Martha & Jim were at today's race and watched, after a long wait along the road, the bikes come flying by. They have a large American Flag that they hold up for everyone to see... She said that they have alot of honking of horns as the team cars come by.
